RosettaNet, the industry’s leading e-business
standards consortium, announced the formation of the RosettaNet Architecture Advisory Committee
(AAC), to provide thought leadership, guidance and support for the consortium’s ongoing
architectural evolution.
As B2B industry infrastructure continues to mature, a greater number of emerging technologies
and related architectural frameworks are introduced into the marketplace. RosettaNet’s AAC gives
voice to the industry by providing a platform for dialogue, collaboration and decision-making
around these critical technology issues.
Led by co-chairs Paul Tearnen, vice president of Standards Management at RosettaNet and
Jean-Claude Monney, vice president of IT strategies and e-Business at STMicroelectronics, the AAC
will help set the direction and development of the
RosettaNet Integration Architecture (RIA) roadmap by assessing the architectural
value and business impact on implementers and solution providers. The group will make
recommendations to RosettaNet’s Executive Committee regarding architectural, convergence and
Foundational Program decisions proposed by Council Members and RosettaNet staff.
The AAC is also responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on the
RosettaNet Services Architecture (RSA) roadmap including delivery model, business
case and alignment with the overall strategic direction of the consortium. RosettaNet’s
Architecture Office, currently headed up by Suresh Damodaran, RosettaNet Chief Technologist (on
loan from Sterling Commerce), will play a pivotal role in promoting and advancing AAC sponsored
initiatives.
“The formation of the AAC demonstrates RosettaNet’s continuing evolution and industry
leadership in the critical area of standards convergence,” said Paul Tearnen, vice president of
RosettaNet. “The AAC will allow RosettaNet to focus on its integrator role, and thus, extend the
consortium’s ability to actively identify and evaluate emerging architectures and frameworks for
accelerated technical implementations. The newly installed AAC will provide tremendous thought
leadership, and also the opportunity for RosettaNet to step up its core business development
activities around content development and service delivery models that are beneficial to companies
of all sizes, including small to medium size enterprises.”
Historically, the consortium’s Global Industry Councils, primarily comprised of business
executives, were responsible for addressing e-business needs and making decisions regarding
RosettaNet’s architectural development. With the number of RosettaNet Councils expanding to new
industries, there was increasing duplication of executive discussions regarding architectural
topics.
The AAC consolidates architecture and convergence dialogues to a single committee, enabling
each Council to focus on the business process requirements of their unique supply chain while also
allowing the Solution Provider Council to focus on expanding the market for RosettaNet standards
and driving cross-industry adoption. The committee will help RosettaNet negotiate standards
convergence in the industry, and create services that enhance the scalability of B2B in the
interests of RosettaNet members, generally, while protecting the commercial interests of solution
provider members, specifically.
“In the past, RosettaNet’s Global Industry Council Members did not have the technical focus
to assess detailed architecture decisions,” said Bill White, CIO Amkor Technology and Chair of
RosettaNet’s Executive Committee. “This factor was a primary driver in the decision to create a new
committee to oversee the consortium’s architectural direction and growth. By leaving
architecture-based issues with architecture experts, RosettaNet can move to the next level in terms
of leveraging integration and convergence opportunities, while also defining standards that support
growing B2Bi complexity in the industry.”
AAC delegates are nominated through specific criteria drawn out by the RosettaNet Councils
and staff. The following individuals have accepted their nomination and joined the AAC: Christophe
Begue, IBM; Drew Gude, Microsoft; Dr. Volker Herwig, Siemens; Frederic Herzer, Motorola; Patrick
Holmes, Intel; Peter Kane, HP; CheeTong Leow, GridNode; Robert McEvoy, Tyco Electronics;
Jean-Claude Monney, STMicroelectronics; Gopi Parampalli, Agilent Technologies; Mark Schenecker,
E2open; Ulrich Seif, National Semiconductor; Hidetada Negishi, Sony, Lew Tucker, Sun
Microsystems; and Jeff Wicks, Cisco Systems. Senior members of RosettaNet’s Standards and
Product Management teams, including Karen Cox and Laura Radloff, will also participate in the
committee.
“RosettaNet AAC founding members are among the best and the brightest minds in the industry,”
remarked Tearnen. “The breadth of knowledge and expertise resident in this group will benefit us
greatly in honing the development of RosettaNet’s architecture to meet future functionality and
scalability requirements.”
About RosettaNet
RosettaNet is a non-profit consortium dedicated
to the collaborative development and rapid deployment of open, Internet-based business standards
that align processes within the global trading network. More than 500 multinational and regional
companies in the information technology, electronic components, semiconductor manufacturing and
telecommunications industries participate in RosettaNet’s strategic standards and services
development. Fortune 1000 companies worldwide have implemented RosettaNet standards, conducting B2B
operations that value billions in annual revenues.
RosettaNet is one of the industry's most ambitious standards implementation efforts spanning
the globe. To date, the consortium has established several regional affiliate organizations — in
the Americas, Australia, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and
Taiwan - giving a voice to various business economies seeking to adopt and influence
RosettaNet's global standards. Information on RosettaNet’s worldwide activities, including a
