RosettaNet Press Release Dynamic Online Training Community Promotes Knowledge Sharing and For Release August 16, 2001
SINGAPORE -- High technology companies and their supply chain partners will now have the ability to tap a vast repository of knowledge and best practices focused on RosettaNet’s open, e-business standards. The launch of the eLearning Center by RosettaNet Singapore and its alliance partners will help promote accelerated learning both within the RosettaNet consortium, as well as outside the community. The innovative eLearning concept capitalizes on today’s technological advances by providing a robust set of educational tools that users can utilize virtually. RosettaNet Singapore, a RosettaNet affiliate organization, is an industry driven initiative facilitated by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and is supported by the Continuous Acquisition for Life Cycle Support (CALS) Association. “Our goal in launching the eLearning Center for RosettaNet is to enhance the educational component inherent in implementing e-business standards,” said Casey Teo, chairman of RosettaNet Singapore. “By providing an effective vehicle for the sharing and transfer of knowledge, we can expect to obtain critical mass at a much faster rate with regard to standards adoption and implementation in Asia, Europe and the Americas.” To date, more than 400 companies comprise the RosettaNet worldwide consortium, a non-profit organization dedicated to the collaborative development and rapid deployment of Internet-based business standards that align processes within the global trading network. As a high tech consortium for the information technology, electronic components and semiconductor manufacturing sectors, RosettaNet has traditionally focused on the technical aspects of e-business standards development. Today, however, with more than 60 Partner Interface Processes™ (PIPs ® ) to its credit, RosettaNet also recognizes the value of facilitating training for member companies on the use of its standards. The educational products and services being offered through the new eLearning Center will complement and extend the work being done by the RosettaNet global standards organization. “The launch of RosettaNet Singapore’s eLearning Center is a valuable initiative for the RosettaNet community,” said Jennifer Hamilton, chief executive officer of RosettaNet. “Training is critical to the overall success of RosettaNet and the eLearning Center is viewed as key in helping to drive adoption of RosettaNet’s e-business processes. Accelerated training around standards implementation will help companies ramp up their level of understanding at an unprecedented pace, yielding near- and long-term results such as global supply chain integration and interoperability.” The eLearning Center for RosettaNet, the first of its kind known in the world, will offer comprehensive training programs that benefit companies around the world. Initially, the Center will focus on delivering educational services to members of the RosettaNet community in Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Europe and the United States. To facilitate training requirements for RosettaNet standards worldwide, the eLearning Center will ultimately support multi-language learning environments, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Specifically, the Center will offer virtual training materials, tools and methodology that will be readily accessible to all RosettaNet Partner companies on a global basis. Designed as an interactive two-way trainer, the eLearning Center for RosettaNet encourages use of its services through live web casts of online management seminars, visual and audio downloads of presentation materials used at management seminars, online chat rooms and discussion databases for member companies, and online linkages to showcases by participating solution providers. The eLearning curriculum for RosettaNet will be delivered via two primary channels – synchronous and asynchronous online training. Users of the Center’s synchronous online training can log on to virtual classrooms and online discussion forums with remote instructors, and participate in web and/or telephone conferencing tutorials. Asynchronous online training features discussion group threads for members to converse/ share knowledge and implementation experiences, and will also support step-through presentation training, videotaped classroom training and online testing. The organizational framework of the eLearning Center for RosettaNet is strategically aligned with the Government’s objective in strengthening Singapore’s position as an e-business knowledge center. “We applaud RosettaNet Singapore for its efforts in providing a convenient one-stop access for training on standards and related practices,” said Dr Kaizad Heerjee, assistant chief executive, online development of IDA. “We want to encourage high-tech companies in Singapore to consider the use of RosettaNet’s standards for operational excellence in their supply chain. This will ultimately contribute to our goal of making Singapore a vibrant global e-business hub with open standards and practices.” RosettaNet Singapore has partnered with a leading local knowledge management and e-learning service provider, Frontline Solutions Pte Ltd., to fulfill the overall development and implementation of the training materials for new eLearning Center. Frontline is slated to design, build, support and maintain the Center using best-of-breed e-learning solutions, as well as facilitate the marketing of training courses. In addition, the eLearning Center for RosettaNet will be equipped with leading edge system hardware and software from Intel, Compaq, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard, while i-STT Pte Ltd will host the site and provide the co-location infrastructure to ensure a successful multi-phase roll out. Members of RosettaNet’s Singapore eLearning Center Committee, including representatives from Seagate Technology, Cisco Systems, Compaq, Intel, Hewlett-Packard Singapore, Motorola Electronics Singapore and IDA, will manage the Center. As a part of its ongoing services, the eLearning Center will also enable certification for Solution Provider product offerings aligned with RosettaNet’s standards in an effort to encourage more companies, especially in Europe and Asia, to join RosettaNet’s rapidly expanding user base. Increased participation at the eLearning Center will result in an enhanced repository of knowledge and best practice methodologies and thus, become a more robust resource for the RosettaNet community. Phase II implementation of the eLearning Center for RosettaNet is targeted for completion in January 2002, and is slated to include enhanced features such as multi-language support , online user assessment and certification, and online software compliance testing facilities.
