RosettaNet Press Release Addition of Seven New Companies Brings SM Board Total to 26 For Release February 2, 2001
Santa Ana -- RosettaNet, the leader in global e-business process standards, today announced the addition of seven companies from Asia and North America to its Semiconductor Manufacturing (SM) Board, a board responsible for developing, adopting and implementing RosettaNet standards for the SM industry. RosettaNet's SM Board, launched in October 2000 by 19 companies involved in wafer fabrication, fabless design, assembly, integrated device manufacturing and materials, now includes: Air Products and Chemicals, Applied Materials, Micron Technology, Samsung, Shin-Etsu Handoutai Co. Ltd., Shinko Electric Industries Co. Ltd., and Sumitomo Metal Industries, SITIX. "We are pleased to have these leading, global companies as our newest board members," said Gidu Shroff, SM board chairman and vice president, technology and manufacturing group and director of materials at Intel Corporation. "Their participation will be invaluable in our efforts to develop standards that will meet the needs of the global semiconductor manufacturing industry." The SM Board has also launched e-business process teams to review and develop semiconductor supply chain business process needs in the areas of manufacturing, materials, and order management. These teams will work with RosettaNet product management and engineering to turn these processes into RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes® (PIPs®). In addition to working within these process teams, board members have committed to initiating internal teams to drive RosettaNet standards implementation within their own companies. SM Board member companies will create an overall e-business plan that includes trading partner and PIP selection and setting up internal systems for linking RosettaNet standards. SM Board member companies have set a March 2001 readiness goal for these activities. "The Semiconductor Manufacturing Board's recent activities, from the addition of new members to the creation of e-business teams and corporate readiness, are all strong indicators of the importance of RosettaNet's efforts within this industry," said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO of RosettaNet. "These initiatives will advance the Semiconductor Manufacturing Board towards RosettaNet standards implementation across the globe." The SM Board is the third to be formed by RosettaNet since it began developing e-business process standards for the Information Technology (IT) and Electronic Components (EC) industries, and now completes a supply chain that stretches from silicon refining to enterprise desktops, involving hundreds of companies and a trillion-dollar worldwide economy. Companies involved in the Semiconductor Manufacturing industry that would like to participate in the RosettaNet standards initiative should visit the RosettaNet Web site at http://www.rosettanet.org to access membership information and obtain an application.
