Partner Press Release Global Collaboration Network to Help Define Standards Among Electronics Businesses For Release May 30, 2001
BELMONT -- E2open, the global collaboration network for the electronics industry, today announced that it has joined RosettaNet as a Solution Provider member. RosettaNet is an independent, non-profit consortium dedicated to the collaborative development and rapid deployment of open Internet-based business standards. E2open will work to drive many-to-many business collaboration among electronics companies through the development and promotion of RosettaNet industry standards. Participation in industry standards bodies such as RosettaNet is an important milestone toward fulfilling the five key requirements of the industry's first global collaboration platform to enable private collaboration on a shared-services network. The other four requirements are security management, any-to-any interoperability, enterprise-ready reliability, and global, scalable networking. RosettaNet Internet-based business standards create a common language and open e-business processes for global, high-technology trading networks. E2open, founded by 10 leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and electronics suppliers to connect their extended supply chains, is working closely with RosettaNet alongside other partner companies to develop many-to-many collaboration standards for managing the entire product lifecycle. E2open's membership and active participation in its standards creation process supports this goal. With its membership, E2open joins its founders Acer, Hitachi, IBM, LG Electronics, Lucent, Nortel, Seagate, Solectron and Toshiba, all of which are RosettaNet members. These companies are committed to the advancement of RosettaNet standards, an effort that ultimately will help to facilitate rapid growth of the electronics industry. "E2open provides RosettaNet with a valuable perspective," said Mary Schoonmaker, vice president of marketing and strategic development at RosettaNet. "Its collaboration network is seen as an important platform for the development and implementation of RosettaNet standards. Furthermore, E2open's founding members, many of which are RosettaNet Electronic Supply Chain Board members, continue to lend resources and focus on the deployment of RosettaNet standards throughout their respective supply chains, in direct and intermediary implementations."
E2open represents a shared service model for inter-company collaboration, a model that is essential to lowering the cost of supply chain management and bringing visibility to the entire product lifecycle. Through its participation in the RosettaNet consortium and its involvement in the development of the iHub framework to enable real-time exchange of common information used in day-to-day supply chain management, E2open is advancing many-to-many collaboration that will help remove supply chain inefficiencies and directly benefit manufacturers.
"Participation in standards bodies is a requirement for successful collaboration in the electronics industry supply chain," said Charles Smulders, research director, Gartner. "Furthering the development of common business processes for this industry is critical to facilitating greater participation and creating a truly global network."
"By championing the RosettaNet e-business standard, E2open is making good on its commitment to deliver a common language to our member companies and their trading partners," said Mark Holman, president and CEO, E2open. "We are confident that this work will have a significant impact on our members' ability to collaborate both openly and securely, and drive newfound efficiencies into their supply networks."
