Lucent Technologies Supports Implementation Of Industry Standards For Electronic Supply Chain Transactions

For Release October 10, 2000

SAN FRANCISCO

Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that it has met its 10/10/2000 milestones for implementing global e-business process standards for supply chain transactions as a board member of the RosettaNet eBusiness Standards body. Lucent made its announcement at EConcert, a RosettaNet sponsored gathering. "As part of its efforts to migrate business practices on-line, Lucent is committed to driving the development of open standards for the rapid exchange of product-specific information on electronic components between suppliers and customers," said David Lando vice president of supply network solutions for Lucent Technologies. "Our participation in RosettaNet is one piece of our e-business strategy as we continue to leverage Internet technology across Lucent's business beginning in product development with our suppliers and concluding with the delivery of our products to customers."

The adoption of open eBusiness content and transaction standards under RosettaNet eliminates the need for out-dated catalogs and less efficient requests for information via telephone calls and faxes to suppliers for technical information on components.

Lucent collaborated with a number of key suppliers who are leaders in the semiconductor and electronic components industries to quickly implement its Partner Interface Processes™ (PIPS). Through a PIP, product designers can send a Web query and immediately receive product-specific technical and business information including reliability and data on life-cycle. Under RosettaNet, PIPs are system-to-system XML-based dialogs critical to aligning business processes in the supply chain. Lucent implemented PIP 2A9, which is expected to contribute to its efforts aimed at significantly reducing design cycle times.
