PartNET Includes RosettaNet Standards In Shopping Technology

For Release June 9, 1999

Salt Lake City, UT -- PartNet, Inc. demonstrated its support of the RosettaNet global business process standards by announcing the inclusion of RosettaNet standards in the company's electronic shopping technology. The latest version of PartNET's eCommerce includes the RosettaNet product classifications and forms the basis of PartNET's IT shopping searches.

RosettaNet is a mandate from the IT industry to establish global business process standards for a PC supply chain involving manufacturers, distributors, resellers and end users, with support from system architects and solution providers.

Speaking about the new standards, Don Brown PartNET CEO stated, "PartNET has standardized on RosettaNet product classification standards. Those standards are currently in place and forming the basis of product searches in the Department of Defense (DOD) IT Corridor." The DOD IT Corridor is a distributive search mechanism that provides a single website location for searching across all IT contracts and existing catalogs for the Air Force, DIA, DISA, the Army Small Computer Program, and the Navy's ITEC Direct program." Brown further stated, " We are also encouraging, with some success, all participating IT Corridor suppliers to use the RosettaNet table structure in their databases."

PartNET creates real-time buying catalogs by combing supplier information from all approved suppliers into a single unified shopping experience. PartNET eCommerce sends a buyer's search request to all appropriate supplier databases, processes the request at each site and then aggregates the information into a single catalog. Products may be searched by part number, national stock number (NSN), key word, hierarchical product category drill-down, or part characteristic. In addition to pricing and availability, the information returned may also include images, drawings, spec sheets, and photos as determined by the individual supplier.

Speaking about the new standards, Don Brown PartNET CEO stated, "PartNET has standardized on RosettaNet product classification standards. Those standards are currently in place in our software and forming the basis of product searches in the Department of Defense (DOD) IT Corridor."

Don Brown, PartNET CEO, looks beyond software and technology companies by saying, " We are also encouraging, with some success, all participating IT Corridor suppliers to use the RosettaNet table structure in their databases."
